Elvira & her Kittens
Churches and Shelters were not the only places evacuees from Hurricane Gustav stayed. Elvira, a black cat who gave birth to five kittens on September 1st has taken resident in a Maryville home. She was abandoned by her owner in Louisiana and found wandering around by the neighbor who brought her to East Tennessee to stay while the hurricane was going on.

Not being able to return with the cat and kittens due to water damage and no electricity, Elvira (who was later named) and her kittens will be staying with a foster family in Maryville and then when old enough, be put up for adoption at Animal Works. Smoky Mountain Feed in Alcoa, a local business helped by donating bags of food for the new momma cat.

Kittens can be adopted through Animal Works, low costs spay and neuter organization & the only no-kill shelter in Blount County. Their website is: http://www.animalworkstn.org/
